Rick Bentley: Michaela Conlin has a sweet TV role

Michaela Conlin, who plays Angela Montenegro on “Bones,” is as sweet and engaging as her TV character on the FOX procedural series. I remember talking to her when “Bones” launched and she was just as sweet and engaging to talk to then.

While the other “Bones” cast have the brains and macho angles covered, Conlin’s the perfect person to play a character who is the heart and soul of the series.

“I think Angela is very much the audience. I think she’s always the person who will say this is really gross or this is really unfair,” Conlin says. “Because she speaks her mind in a world of rules, I think people connect with her very strongly and I like that.”

Montenegro’s certainly an interesting character. Through the course of the series she’s had sexual explorations, added a creative element to the team, married and had a baby. How much cooler can a character get than to have a member of ZZ Top play your father?

Conlin was glad that her character became a mom because after seven seasons, it opened up new story avenues for her. Her favorite episode in recent years was the one where she gave birth.

“Angela had been such a sexual free spirit. She had lots of different boyfriends and girlfriends. It’s nice to swing her totally to the other side and have her be a mother,” Conlin says.

And, she’s playing one of the sweetest and most engaging mothers on TV.
